"Wolf is the Grand teacher. Wolf is
the sage, who after many winters
upon the sacred path and seeking the
ways of wisdom, returns to share new
knowledge with the tribe.

Wolf is both the radical and the
traditional in the same breath. When
the Wolf walks by you - you will
remember.

The old ones tell us stories about
our beginnings and of a time when
human kind first came to live upon
this Earth. It was Wolf who taught
Humans the ways of living in harmony.
It was Wolf who taught us how to
form community upon this Earth, for
Wolves have an intuitive knowledge of
order through chaos and they possess
the ability to survive change, intact.

Wolf medicine is very ancient and
born of living experience. Wolf will
look deep into your heart and share
the greatest of knowledge, but will
demand full participation, and
absolute sincerity.

When Wolf has walked by you, the
very presence of the wolf will
rekindle old memories within your soul.

Through the friction of experience
you rekindle the emotional fires of
the inner soul and question the
manifestations of your own conscious-
ness. You can own a thing only when
you have come to own the emotional
experience of it, and realize the
responsibility for its creation.
Then you are free to continue.

Wolf medicine can make you whole.
You will return to Wolf many times
in your life as you complete and
begin your cycles of experience and
seek the inner truth.

They came into our lives early one
March morning. It had snowed
all night with a cold wind whipping
through the pine trees surrounding the
farm, blowing clumps of ice and heavy
flakes against the window pane. Our
children were fast asleep dreaming of
Spring just around the corner; my
husband, his parents, who were visiting
and my great-grandmother had not stirred
to begin the new day.
I was restless, unsettled, with a
pending feeling of I knew not what.

Our neighbor to the South had passed
into the great Spirit World the week
before...a kind soul she was...a healer
a teacher...a mentor...a friend.

When she and her mate moved here
a few years ago from Minnesota, they
brought with them a magnificent black
Gray Wolf and his mate.
Sadly, Timber was hit by a car when
he got out of his enclosure one
night and Chetani, his mate disappeared.
It broke Dora's heart...she grieved
herself to death. She had lost her
mate a few months before, then Timber
and then Chetani, and it was far too
much for her dear soul to bear.
She gave up, layed down and passed
into the next world.

I'm not sure why I was so restless..
perhaps it was because I was
settling Dora's affairs, for she had
no family left, or if on some plane,
Chetani was communicating with me. I
only felt this way when something
was about to happen.

Morning broke bright and clear with
droplets of water frozen into ice
by the cold winds, hanging suspended
from the pine boughs There was a
crisp crust of new-fallen snow on
the ground which crunched under my
boots and the icy-cold wind whipped
through my hair. It was still
there...that feeling.

The children were hustled off to
meet the school bus, the
animals were fed, the stalls all
mucked out and I saddled Little Bear
to see if a ride would clear the
cob webs before I started the
rest of my day.
